Joobs wrote:Secret Identity? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY_oKve-bH0It's not just that he may make Duhamel fold some strong hands but, as it's CO v Button, Duhamel has air here a reasonable amount of time I'd have thought and calling will get a cbet quite often, or will let him catch a piece of the flop and get him paid. Shoving takes all of Duhamels air out of his range. Not that shoving isn't bad with all the chips in the middle already, but to say that he outright should have shoved, having seen what happened, is just silly. i totally agree with you, but.. in this particularly case when you are only few steps from final table is it worth a risk playing AA postflop?? even if there is 10% chance you opponent will hit set/2 pairs/straight - you will have hard time laying AA down. Imo that kind of play which Mat used is great in most cases but not here.

I think, he tried to get the big chiplead. He took a lot of chips on the final table bubble. Way more than he lost in EV by making the "bad" call. Not the best call ever, but definitely not awful.

He had to call 11 million for a 29 million pot, which is about 3 to 1. So he needs like 27% equity. I guess he puts his opponent on a hand against which he has 10 outs. 2 jacks, 4 Kings and 4 8s. So that would be about 20%. At first I thought this call was very bad, but having done the math iT#s really not THAT awful after all. He's got a shot at a big big chiplead which he luckily achieved. So if he folds the turn he's left with 19 million, which is still good. but if he calls and loses he's left with 8 million, which is not fantastic but still playable. And he had a shot at this massive pot. And really, u are under so much pressure in that spot, that u can't always make the best decisions. btw: also thought he asked tens or nines? but not sure.

Its a terrible call.
Not only is he not getting anywhere near the correct price against Afflecks range in that spot, but he should also not want to be gambling against another big stack because it is terrible when you take into account ICM. If Duhamel was prepared to put his entire stack in, he should have shoved the turn. Not check called every street with a mediocre hand. Affleck played great aggressive poker, and just wasnt rewarded in the end.
No idea how players like Candio and Duhamel can still be in the tournament. Is it really possible to run good for that many days straight

Quebecers have guts. I agree that Duhamel's call was questionable, but he looked at the money in the pot, thought he might be behind, but had a chance on the river nomatter what Affleck had. He went for it, just like LeFrancois did (going out 13th instead of playing it safe). Affleck's was sucking him in, and it worked, and yet when the river doesn't go his way, everyone sides on Affleck's side. Duhamel would have chips 6mil even if he lost. Don't fall for the story they set up.
