World Series of Poker
World Series of Poker (“WSOP”) is the most famous poker tournament series in the world. The main event of 2006 WSOP had record participation with 8,773 players competing in the tournament.
World Series of Poker includes numerous events with different games and buy-ins. The main event has remained the same for a while now, though, and is No-Limit Texas Hold’em with $10,000 as the buy-in. Other notable WSOP events include the $10,000 Pot-limit Omaha championship tournament and the $50,000 Mixed Game tournament.
Phil Hellmuth holds the record of winning the most WSOP bracelets in the world (11 bracelets). Players receive a WSOP bracelet as they win a World Series of Poker Tournament. Players such as Daniel Negreanu, Allen Cunningham and Erick Lindgren have been named ‘Player of the Year’ by WSOP.
